Why use the hats two ways when you can think of a third? I had never heard of Monster High dolls, but when I saw this one, I knew Fluffy would love to have her in the witch cake in place of the usual Wilton half-Barbie.
I had the silver dragees on hand from gingerbread cookies. I freaked out when I first finished this cake. Did it look too Bachelorette party? Did she look too goth? Did she look like a biker chick in black leather and spikes? No. She looked like a stylish little Halloween fairy.
and a swirl of stars cut from a sugar sheet and sprayed with edible silver glitter. They’re pretty and, um, nutritious.
Establishing the color palette in an outdoor party is tricky unless you’re working with a wedding size budget. I started with black tablecloths and several yards of glitter tulle in green, fuchsia and purple.
Candles, moss, glittered spiders and sequined branches made these overgrown terrariums for the pink table.
More silver stars made it onto garlands around the party area, and a few bunches of balloons helped tell people where to go.
I’ve had the purple garland since I bought and forgot to use it for Fluffy’s first birthday party. A little tear comes to my eye thinking this is the fifth one of these I’ve thrown for my Fluff-bear!
The most time consuming project was without doubt the favor bags.
I used green ribbon for the boys’ bags (dracula teeth, fake mustaches, punch balloons, crafts, candy, etc.) and fuchsia for the girls’ (pink beads and nail polish pens instead of fake mustaches).
But they look so much better with people on the seats and Cafe Rio on the plates.
I do wonder why I expend so much effort on this part, when all the best stuff happens AFTER we eat lunch, blow out the candles, gobble up the cupcakes and open the treat bags.
Is that really my itty bitty baby flying down the slides all by herself?
I loved going on the hayride and realizing how many of the people around us have been here with us for each of the past five years. What a great group. Thanks for taking your kids out of school on a Friday, haha, and for being there for us every day.
I love my little Fluffy so much it hurts. And I am thrilled that I’m not the only one.
