I had a break through recently when I finally admitted to myself and the world that Summer is Hot. I’ve tried all my life to believe that last summer was exceptionally hot, or that this summer will somehow be exceptionally cool, or that next summer I’ll live in a place that isn’t hot. But it was all a sham! Summer is hot, and admitting that has given me some peace. Now summer and I can look each other square in the face and know just what a detestable entity we’re dealing with.
On the major upside, fall is wonderful! I am so relieved and delighted to be buying pumpkins and making pumpkin cookies (thanks for the recipe, Bethany), and snuggling my three sweetest pumpkins in the world. It’s moments and faces like those pictured above that give me the strength to endure the deathgrip of summer humidity in the suburbs of Washington, D.C..
