Thanks to Ellen James for the fantastic tip to get to the Smithsonian Castle during the magnolia season. WOW!
It will still be beautiful tomorrow if you get the chance during spring break. And there’s a stunning weeping cherry in full bloom there today, as well. The Smithsonian Castle courtyard is always a treat, but I have never seen it more picturesque than it was this afternoon. And the DC parking gods smiled upon us, so basically, it was a perfect trip.
Okay, okay. It was only perfect if I leave out the fact that we went to the planetarium movie beforehand so that all the kids were depleted and in constant-complaint mode by magnolia time. I had to gather them round and say, “I understand that you are tired and hungry and thirsty and bored and you want to go home. I have heard you. After mommy has seen all the magnolias, then we will get food and drinks and go to the car and go home. Your whining will not change the order of events. I am here to look at the magnolias, and that is what we are going to do.” So I have a bunch of pictures of children looking sullen in breathtaking surroundings.
Except it did change the order of events. I took them home with No Carousel Ride. THAT’S what whining gets you.
