Living With Kids on Design Mom

Design Mom ran my house tour and Q&A today on her blog!  I am so excited I can hardly stand it–and my husband can hardly stand me.

Thanks to Erin McPhie for pushing me to do it, to Jenn and Jeremy for loaning me their camera and doing the decor heavy lifting while I was on bedrest, and to Kent for being so encouraging and helpful while I took the pictures.

  1. Hello!

I love reading your blog! I particularly like it when you do scientific posts about motherhood. However, I have noticed that you do dress your twins alike and I was wondering if you don’t ever worry about how this could affect their personalities and some other issues. I mean, don’t get me wrong! I think it looks rather twee in the pictures but I just wanted to know what are your thoughts on that topic and if you plan to dress them like that when they get older as well.

    Yours sincerely,

    • I have twin two-year-old boys. Aren’t they lovely? I just wanted to comment that I sometimes dress them the same. Sometimes I don’t. I noticed that Mother Nature dressed them the same (they are identical), and it’s up to them to develop their own personalities. I encourage both the way their own set of unique traits requires. Or at least I hope I do.

And congratulations on your Design Mom house tour! I think yours is about my favorite. So beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

      • Thanks Anita. That means so much! I really feel encouraging their unique traits and responding to their unique needs is a hundred times more important than how you dress them when they’re little.

    • Ana, thanks for reading and sending a question. Great to have you commenting here. I think your question deserves a post, and I’ll put it up tomorrow. Thanks again!

  2. Hi! Your feature on Design Mom was great. I was glad to find you blog.

I tried to send you this through your contact form but it returned an error, so I’m posting it on this thread:

Hi! I am Denise and I moved to DC from France a year and a half ago with my husband and three sons. I found your blog through your feature on Design Mom and thought I’d say hi. I’ve been terrible about making a social life for myself in person but online I feel much more gutsy. Ha! Have a nice weekend,
