At the dinner table
Me: Eating food you don’t like is a skill that you need to learn. We all have to practice eating food we don’t like so we can get better at it.
Salty: Aw. I suck at this.
Fluffy: You realize if Peppers eats food with pepper on it that’s sort of like cannibalism.
After putting her hand in the door I had already pushed to close.
Fluffy: (Bursting into tears and clutching her hand) You MONSTER!
Me: (Trying to hide a laugh) Oh, I’m so sorry. That was an accident. Is that what you really think, that I’m a monster?
Fluffy: No. My hand just hurts really badly.
Discussing possible furniture plans for Fluffer’s sitting area.
Me: I guess there’s also beanbag chairs. They are tacky and low to the ground, but people your age seem to like them. But maybe they only like them because they don’t have real chairs. What do you think?
Fluffs: About what?
Me: Beanbag chairs.
Fluffs: I think beanbag chairs plus book, plus friends, plus room, plus girl room equals awesome.
Fluffy: Sometimes I just can’t wait to be a teenager.
Me: Ew. Why?
Fluffy: You know, because then I could have a phone and a laptop. I wish I had a phone now.
Me: What would you do with a phone?
Fluffy: Text my friends to see how they are doing.
Me: Do any of your friends have phones yet.
Me: So if you had a phone you couldn’t text them anything anyway. It would just be you texting yourself.
Fluffy: That would be awkward.
