In my continuing effort to create a fabulous room for the Fluffatron 3000 which is Victorian-inspired but which never enters either a) shabby chic or b) steam punk territory, I tried my hand at making Victorian silhouettes of the kids. One reason this appealed to me is that I wanted something on one of the walls that was entirely white, pink and black to help tie in the bedding and curtain valances.
I took some profile shots of the kids being careful to get a full sideways where the camera was at ear height.
Then I bumped up the contrast on the photo just so photoshop would have an easy time magic wand selecting the person. I then blacked out the bust and whited out the inverse. Done!
After that I switched to Word (because it’s my comfort zone) to create a mini-polka dot oval frame for the silhouette images complete with light pink border and light pink ribbon label. Fluffalump requested these read “la Fluff”, “le Peps” and, “le Salty”, and so indeed they do. I think I may create a youtube video of this procedure.
I had them printed at Staples on high quality cardstock for matte photos. They look pretty good, but I think maybe I want the pink background just a titch more orange, less purple. It looked perfect on my screen but printed a little more fuchsia than I had hoped. So I may spend the $2 or so to have the three of them reprinted tomorrow.
This room is getting so close. Everything is purchased and ordered. I just have this wall grouping to install, another custom wall treatment (kind of like a bird cage mobile–you’ll see), maybe a little treatment on the new lamp bases when they arrive, and assembly of an RTA bookcase, and then you shall see the prettiest room in the house.
Please stay tuned!
