I’ve heard and believe that when most mothers hear their baby cry, they have a visceral reaction of caring and compassion. “Oh, my darling, what’s wrong? How can Mommy make you more comfortable?” I’ve experienced that a few times.
If I’m being honest though, my instinctive reaction to my babies’ crying is usually more along the lines of, “Dude, what’s your problem? You’re fed, you’re dry, you’ve burped. You’re a natural born American citizen in the suburbs in the age of antibiotics and laproscopic surgery. Suck it up.”
To be even more honest, I have said these exact words to Fusserson. They made about the impact you would expect on my 6 week old boy.
