I’m quite proud of myself for not cleaning more. In the time we’ve been here, I have only cleaned the vacation house twice. That is major self-restraint from me.
I’m kind of a neat-freak and have been known to start cleaning up after a dinner party while the guests are still lounging. And when I say “have been known to”, I mean “pretty much always”.
Yes it bugs me that the counters are covered in half-pillaged Costco cartons and empty or half-empty paper cups all day. Oh, and the soaking! This is not my house, so I make no attempt to enforce a no-soaking rule, but one’s inner convictions do not die so easily.
I’ve been very laid back. I may have picked up all the Barbies a few times only to see them strewn all over the main floor again within the hour. I may have run a few dishwasher and laundry loads here and there, but by and large, I have absolved myself of keeping the vacation house presentable, and I think I’m the healthier for it.
I tell you what though, I’m keeping my new house clean. I tell you what else, I’m also going to suggest that next reunion we rent a place that is waaaay less fancy than this. There’s just no justificatoin for spending this kind of money on a gorgeous venue when everyone (except maybe this freakshow) wants to be able to just relax and trash the place.
