The earthquake was awful. What a way to welcome our new au pair on her second day of work. Our house looked so strange after. Pictures askew, candles fallen and shattered, lamps tipped over, all the drawers shaken open, bottles flying out of the cupboards, cleaning solutions fallen off the shelves. YIKES!
I was actually driving home from the grocery store and arrived minutes after the earthquake. Nicole said while she was here the boys were in their floor gyms in the kitchen. She took Truman up to the crib, then she said a peaceful feeling came over her and she felt like, “everything is going to be okay” but she had better pick up Peppers. After she picked him up, the earthquake hit. All of the heavy silver platters that I had displayed on top of the very tall cupboards clattered to the floor permanently denting it in places. The largest and heaviest platter fell literally right where Peppers had lain.
I am so grateful that Nicole lives her life close to the Spirit and follows its promptings.
Also, remember that post about the boys room where I said I was going to buy a red shelf and put it over the boys’ crib with a pirate ship on it, but I didn’t dare because “what if we had an earthquake?” Remember that? You can look it up here. Anyway, I almost bought that shelf a half-dozen times, and every time I thought, “but what if there’s an earthquake? Oh that’s ridiculous. There are no fault lines and no earthquakes here.” Yet, the thought didn’t leave me, so the shelf didn’t get purchased. I’m so glad that it wasn’t above the crib when Salty was in it during the earthquake.
